Greenleaf Season OneOWN has begun production on a new scripted and original drama series Greenleaf, created by Craig Wright. The upcoming drama series will be executive produced by Craig Wright, Oprah Winfrey and Lionsgate Television. Wright, a graduate from the United Theological Seminary of the Twins Cities and St. John’s University and a former minister, will write the scripts. Wright is known for his work on TV series Lost, Six Feet Under and United States of Tara. Winfrey has recently appeared and produced the Oscar Nominated film, Selma.Greenleaf centers around the unscrupulous world of the Greenleaf family and their sprawling Memphis megachurch with a predominantly African-American congregation, where beneath the steeple lies a den of scandalous iniquity- greed, adultery, sibling rivalry and conflicting moral values. The multigenerational church becomes the matrix of deception that involves the church’s founding family but also extends to the congregation, its prominent members and even beyond the church walls. Yet, amidst all of the mayhem and deception, there is a power of something greater that persists within the church walls calling to everyone to account for their sins. The scandalous drama series will star Keith David (Community and Barbershop) as Bishop James Greenleaf, the charismatic and manipulative leader of Greenleaf World Ministries. Lynn Whitfield (Without A Trace and Mama I Want to Sing) is set to portray, Lady Mae Greenleaf, Bishop Greenleaf’s wife and the family matriarch. Merle Dandridge (Sons of Anarchy and The Night Shift) stars as Grace Greenleaf, Lady Mae and Bishop’s middle daughter who returns home 20 years after escaping her family ties. Desiree Ross (Falling Skies and Secrets in the Fall) will portray Sophia Greenleaf, Grace’s teen daughter. Lamman Rucker (Half & Half and Meet The Browns) will portray Jacob Greenleaf, the eldest son and perpetual black sheep of the family. Kim Hawthorne (Rake and Lucky Louie) will portray Kerissa Greenleaf, Jacob’s overly ambitious and ever controlling wife.
